As it turns out, the Alterac Mountains aren’t as empty as I’d first thought. A banshee that took up residence in Tarren Mill asked me to start whittling away at the numbers of the ogres in the mountains in preparation for reclaiming some magical artifact. The ogres know only basic words, shouting things like “I crush you!” while attacking. They’re rather heavy, so I have to make sure that I’m out of the way when they fall over dead. The size of them makes it difficult to kill them–they’re quite tough, but with Grimvhug’s help it’s much easier. When I returned to the town to report back, the banshee asked me to go after the ogres’ leader, saying that he’s the one holding the artifact. So that quest is pretty much on hold for the moment; the ogres gave me enough trouble that I think I ought to be stronger before trying to assassinate their leader.
One of the nearby villages in the mountains turned out to be a base for a human group called the Syndicate, who have been causing trouble for the Horde in the Hillsbrad Foothills. They’re a nasty bunch, attacking me on sight, and sometimes even from within a stealth cloak. I ended up rescuing an orc being held by them with the help of a sin’dorei paladin. It turns out the orc was wrongfully captured by them and has now returned to Tarren Mill to meet up with another orc there. At least I thwarted the Alliance with this act.
